Sci-fi Terrain Box (Technopague)

I just finished up my Technopague project s and wouldn't you know it, my buddy Rob picked up this set of plastic magnetic tiles for kids, and he's he said "You're the Terrain Ninja or whatever, so make something cool with these." Not sure what he meant by that, but hey, I was down to give it a shot.

I still had a bunch of those papercraft printouts lying around, and I figured some of Dave Grattams' terrain patterns would be a perfect starting point. Last time I did something in red, so I decided to go with blue this time. I just started printing out a whole bunch of sheets from Dave's Spaceport Tiles range, didn't have too much of a plan, just printed and glued everything up. Let me tell you, there were a lot of tiles! I tried using that spray adhesive stuff, but it didn't really hold the paper to the plastic that well. In the end, I just used a ton of PVA glue, and then I topped it off with some Mod Podge to seal it all up.

Check them all out! It's not readily evident, but they're all double sided too!

After I finished the magnetic pieces, I decided to make a box to keep the whole set in, so I can transport it around. I took a shoebox and then covered it with MDF to made it real sturdy. I then I had the idea to turn the whole thing into terrain pieces too, making the lid into a little landing pad, and the bigger part of the box could be flipped it over so it could be like this huge building with a lip on top, so any models up there would have some cover.

I did a similar mdf cladding of the larger part of
the box. What you're seeing is the box's bottom -
I made it so it flips upside down and the roof has a
railing of some sorts.

Everything fits nice and neatly in the box, and since I had some extra space, I threw in a bunch of papercraft pieces I've made previously. So now I've got this versatile terrain set with some real character to it - it's about time I got it onto the table and some games happening.
