Backdrops (Terrain)

It seems that backdrops are all the rage right now on the Necromunda Terrain Builder's Facebook Group. Well, that's not entirely accurate, as 99% of such posts are from one guy promoting his Patreon account - can't fault a guy for trying to make a buck.

A couple of quick digital filters can make anything
look grimdark huh?!?

Needing to tidy  up my shed some, I decided to screw two bits of wood together (from a neighbour's kitchen renovation offcuts) and see what I could come up with. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure...

I started with two bits of board, simply glued and screwed together.
Then, grabbing some old sprues, I began to glue them on.

My useful box got raided. The panel with all the dials
was from one of the boys' old toy fire trucks.
The hexes were from PC case a few years back...
A PC heatsink made for a good piece of flooring, as
did a dishwasher cutlery tray.  More sprues were
included and even the top of a spice bottle and it was
even recognised by one of my mates.
A few more components were added then I sprayed
the whole things black.
Over the black I added a mix of brown and bronze
craft paints - there's nothing particularly careful or
clever about the process - I just like to see some colour.
A few minutes of dry brushed whites made brought
out the edges a little. The nice thing about such
builds is that I don't feel compelled to stick with a
plan - if a change is needed, then I can do so without
worrying that I'll ruin things - it's quite liberating.
As you can see here, I've added some more detail:
the hexes now have 'things' inside them and I've
included some interiors in the panels. Oh yeah, there's
that bomb looking thing in the middle as well - not sure
what that's going to be.

So that's where things are at presently. I feel that I've got about enough elements on the build presently so will likely start painting it again. That bomb thing in the image above is eating away at me - maybe this is some sort of munitions factory? Maybe those hexes to the right are were the bombs are stored/accessed? That suggests a gantry or something to lift and place the devices.

Who knows where it will go??
