Okay Christmas holidays this year. Been really good fun. We went interstate for a while and then January was mainly spent around the house. I had to duck into work for a couple of weeks but then the Australia week I've had off and I've been getting a whole lot of Holli-hobby projects into a state of completion. Along with that, I've also done some reorg in my shed, so I've got a much cleaner workspace.
Some new old recruits
With the third palooza tournament happening in a little while. I've been prepping my Eldar collection so I can represent the forces of the imperium on the day. Silly me. I initially thought we had to do 2000 point armies but it ends up being 1500. So, I painted a few extra Eldar needlessly and then once my mates had to look at my sample list it became apparent that I also needed an additional Grav Tank.
Now I've got more than enough Eldar to field on the day. My wave serpent that I painted a few years back now is now being accompanied by a second wave serpent that I'm quite happy with. Granted the painting isn't as smooth as using an airbrush but I like the colours in the overall look and I might well keep on working on it a bit more in the time to come.
Also I thought I might be able to take along three Wraithlords, so it made for a good excuse to paint up my third. I really like how the gems came out - they look great in natural lighting.

| The basing was a bit of a cheat: I got some textured paper? from the local art shop. With a undercoat and drybrush, it looks fine! |
| This Wraithlord required some serious leg surgery to get him battle ready. We're talking pinning and a two-part epoxy splint! |
A new flight stand
Of note is the stand which I built. I use a stem off of plastic wine glass and reinforced it with a metal rod on the inside. Then using the magnets of a indoor magnetic Dart set, I've magnetized the rod attached to the base of the grav tank and it all came together really well.
| This worked out well. see how I offset it a tad and made it angled? |
This magnet was from a plastic dart set - they're amongst the strongest magnets I've found amongst household things. |
| The angle means the Tank can be made to look rising or dropping etc. |
| A nice bit of clearance! |
Storing and transporting my minis
I've been trying to work out a storage solution for a long time. Something that allows me to quickly Port my miniatures to a game but also looks attractive and can be shown off on a display shelf. I found these tactics. Bunnings waterproof cases: there's two sizes and they're both under $20 each. Using a bit of card and poster board, I made new shelves for them and then pud a thin strip of metal on each shelf. As all my miniatures are magnetized on the bottom, they're pretty safe to be moved around without too much danger. I think it looks really good to be honest!
| So many boxes! I cleaned out Bunnings that day. |
| Looks pretty cool huh? |
This is the bigger size of the two boxes available. Big enough for a Grav Tank and Wraithlord! |
| Each box holds about a dozen 28mm. |

The plastic is quite hard, relatively scratch resistant and clear. There are hinges locking clasps that secure the lid tight. |
