Zeo Genesis Game - Bringing out my Ravelin

I found some time over the last couple of weeks to do some reorganising in my shed and decided to tackle a few of my hobby projects - I have so many half-started/finished projects that collective were taking up too much physical and mental space. Also, my mates have encouraged me to enter a tournament next year (which I'll write some about another time) for which I need to prepare a dozen miniatures ahead of time. So rather than just mucking around it was time: time to finish off some minis!

What better miniature to start with than something that is anything but - my Ravelin for Zeo Genesis! My good mate Rob printed it out for me a few months ago and it took a long time to clean it up and assemble. It is a huge model as far as wargaming models go. It sits on a 130mm diameter base with a body that's 6.5-inches tall excluding the massive 6-inch cannon mounted on its back. With the cannon raised - raised like an artillery piece it's about 10-inches tall!

What can I say about the construction and painting? The base was one of my usual homemade jobs, cobbling together all manner of odds-and-ends from my box of bits including zip ties, sanding mesh, and some old terrain plates from a now defunct terrain collection. I also included a Lego rip-off box or crate so that I could stand one of the Ravelin's four legs to make it a little more dynamic.

I put the model together in two parts. The leg assembly detaches from the upper body. I drilled some holes into the hips cut and put a nail/rod into the upper body's ball joint that allows me to reposition the body - I can have the Ravelin with its 'head' pointing up or down.

The upper body is notable because of the cannon - it's held in place by friction and can be raised and lowered. Why? Because it looks cool.

My prep was pretty limited. It was printed using FDM and given that the outcome was awesome. There are many imperfections i.e., it's not super smooth, but that doesn't concern me at all. I used a combined filler/primer and painted the whole model a matt black initially. Then I hit it with various hues of primarily blues to with highlights of red and orange highlights for the missiles and weird little spots. I might put a transfer on it sometime. Or maybe a number or something like "B3"? Anyway, that doesn't matter as it looks great as is.

In Zeo Genesis, Ravelins are the biggest of the Pact mechs aka Zeos. They cost a heap of points and are suitably dangerous. One thing that's special about them is that they can be kitted out with two Protocol weapons - so the giant cannon and banks of missiles on my model really fits the brief.

On Tuesday I've my first game in a while - not because we've not enjoyed Zeo Genesis, rather there have been so many other games to play we've been too busy! We've decided to try a 150-point game which should be interesting as we typically play 100-points. I've a list of... four Zeos - I'll share the details later on.
