Sci-fi crates

Not long ago, I went to a swap meet and got a whole lot of new models. Now that's always a great thing because it's exciting to have another project to tackle, however, I was getting to the point where I had too many half-baked projects and my backlog was dragging me down.

So during recent months I've been chipping away at some of those projects. Indeed more than a few have been binned, I'm sad to say, but there's something to be said for just releasing the burden sometimes.

But it's not all been bad news. I've also finished some projects. Here are some sci-fi crates that I made. They're only relatively small, but they're pretty cute all the same.

If you're wondering how I got them looking like I did, I used my Dremel to route out the etchings on the laser cut MDF. It was a laborious process but worth it. All the boxes were primed with the Games, workshop, chaos, black spray. I use a chipping brush - that's the technical term for a stick with a sponge on it - to apply various Shades of blues and greys. The green was warpstone glow and yellow. And the red boxes were painted on, but the white numbers were actually Lexostet? I think that is what it's called? A great gift from a mate Rob which has served me very well. I spent way too much time doing edge highlights and that sort of stuff - it paid off as the boxes look pretty cool. If only they were bigger!
