I live in inner Melbourne and a long street near me has an annual Garage Sale aka Car Boot Sale or Rummage Sale. Come Sunday morning there are dozens of houses selling off their old goods for rock bottom prices - either that or they have to pack everything up again afterwards!
I grabbed a handful of coins, woke the dog up, and headed down to try my luck. It was a beautiful 25 degrees with only the hint of a breeze - just what the doctor ordered as I have been ill for the last week or so.
As it happened, I had a little bit of luck. Firstly, this large toy from the Thunderbirds franchise - specifically Thunderbird 2:
The size is perfect for 28mm gaming. Sure, the cockpit is a little small, but the rest of the ship, and cargo module are bang on the money. It's a shame that the cockpit's lid was broken, but at $3- beggars can't be choosers. NB I did a quick check on eBay - you can pick one up secondhand for about $20-40 normally.
I also found some construction vehicles made with something like plastic macano. As they stand, they're not going to be much good, however, they've got some good shapes from which I can work from. I especially liked the tracked lower part of the earth mover and the back of its cabin - both of which I am sure could be put towards making some crazy vehicles.
