Pipeworks MDF Terrain

Ages ago I competed in a Necromunda terrain building competition and won a prize - a double set of The Promethium Forge's PipeWorks mdf terrain kit. Recently, in preparation for some of our F28 games in Rob's campaign setting, I wanted to create some new terrain, so I broke open the kit and built my first mdf terrain.

It was a really easy process, and I am very happy with the results. What can I tell you... it took about two days of effort, which I spread over two weekends. The pieces were really well cut and sized, but for a little sanding to remove the odd tab, there wasn't much to do. The dog ate some of the pieces (bad Loki!) so it must taste okay as well. The paint job was very quick - rattle cans and dry brushing - but I'm doing some spot painting now e.g., the black-and-yellow danger stripes. I was a bit worried about the PVC pipes scratching etc, but they've turned out fine - I sanded the connection holes some so they aren't as tight and haven't really had a problem.

Would I recommend it? Yep, I certainly would! I've subsequently reached out to my good mate Viv from Knights of Dice and ordered some complementary pieces to go with my kit.

As an added bonus, the whole kit fits exactly into a case my mate Rob gave me a few months ago. So that means I can jump on my bike while holding a complete table's worth of wargaming terrain, and ride down to Axes & Ales in a flash - as I've done - which makes for one less barrier to getting my games on.

  1. That looks great! I wouldn't have guessed that it was MDF, or that it would fit into such a small case. Really nice looking terrain there.

    1. It was my first MDF experience and turned out better than I had expected. The case isn't small, but there's not a wasted inch of space - talk about lucky!??!
