The Sump Empress (Terrain I think) Part 1
So this Sump Dock thing is getting out of hand. Now I've got a bloke in Boston consulting with me as I am building a 30-ish inch long ship! - yeah, three times the length of last weekend's boat (most definitely a boat), twice the height and about twice as wide. The whole thing is shaping up as modular, so I can lengthen or shorten it as required, change the superstructure or even build some new bits if I get inspired. So let's have a look at some of what's happened today...
So here is the basic outline - Left is the rear, Right is the front (bow)
Using a bit of acrylic, I created a curve that I'd use for the bow.
Using the curve, I created a template and cut out curves of cardboard.
I stacked up the cardboard, putting filler in between the layers.
Jez, that was lucky - it came in exactly to my intended height!
So that is how I created the shape of the ship's bow. It took about an hour, employing the same technique I had used to create last weekend's boat. Next, I made a skin for the hull of the bow.
I rolled the bow over some paper, tracing out the basic shape.
With some sissors, I cut the first template...
...then tried it for size - worked well!
I then used it to make the same shape out of a light cardboard. I had to cut it in half to make it work.
With a bit of tape (the last of it as it happens, I was in luck) I then connected it together.
I then cut a top sheet to better fit and put it all together. So the result?
