So I found some time to do a bit more on the old Serpent. I tried my hand at edge lining the @$%^er and also resprayed the bottom - that moot green I had previously used didn't look very good at all.
First thing's first, I used tape and masked the yellow and red - that didn't take too long.
I was going to go a straight black but instead when a gray with some black over the engine bits. One of the joys of trying to do this hobby on the cheap is mixing one's own paints ;-)
You can see the contrast between the green back and gray sides here quite nicely.
So with the underside looking a bit better, it was line edging time. I did all the yellow panels with a white and the Red panels I did with a near-orange (forget what it's called now) as the red I was going to use just didn't pop enough.
There must be some special hell for this type of painting 😒...
...but the results are looking pretty good 😁 Dire Avengers for the hell of it and also to remind me how small the model actually is.
So there you have it. Again there are some lessons here that I'll no doubt forget next time I tackle a similar job, so I won't even bother writing them down. Hopefully tomorrow I might get close to finishing the job. My plan is to:
- Re-spray one or two of my dirtiest yellow panels - it seems no amount of brushed on airbrush paint can cover the messes I made;
- Do something with the green door at the back... maybe outline it in red and white?
- Use Blutak over the silver spirit stones and give the whole thing a matt varnish; then
- Use my gem paints on the spirit stones.
Presently I don't think I'll do any transfers - it's actually looking busy enough as it is. Maybe by this time next week I'll have it finished!
