Yes, the game only came with 20 Genesteelers, however over the years I've collected some more e.g., the ones that came with Space Crusade. I've actually another 4 or 5 that I uncovered after I was halfway through this batch - they'll just have to wait. Anyway, 21 is more than enough. They took me only a few hours of work all up - lots of drybrush layers: white, green, grey, bone, green, white just building them up and up. I liked how their bodies and heads turned out, but not the claws so much... I might come back to them one day and see what I can do.
I only painted the first Squad of Terminators on impulse. A mate popped over last weekend to learn about airbrushes and I decided to show him priming (using a black), zenith undercoating (using a white) and base/foundation painting (using a blue) - it took a lot less than 5 minutes per miniature. The next day over the course of maybe 3 hours, I painted the detail and applied their transfers. I'm learning lots of little tricks/skills that are making for a better outcome and less frustrating process e.g., on the Marine's helmets, I started with grey, washed in black, then dry brushed bone followed by a dusting of white - very easy and it looks a treat. Oh yeah, they happen to be Ultramarines, not through any design. I had intended to paint them blue to match some of my other Space Marines from last year but forgot to do their right shoulder's yellow. Ooopps.
What's next? I've another Squad of 5 Terminators to do - now they really need to be done else the 2 Squad Missions are going to suck. I may also keep my eyes open for some alternate loadouts e.g., Power Claws and Assault Cannons. I do have a complete set of 4th Edition Space Hulk... but that's my go-slow project which is scheduled to finish sometime around 2040. Presently I've done nothing special with the bases - I've recently ordered some acrylic bases from Knights of Dice and intend to give them a try - worth a shot I think.
Now for some more games!
This is the face I make when I realise my plan is going South fast. I love this girl so much - happy to entertain her Dad's whims just because. |
