Epic Eldar Armoured Vehicles

I’ve had a few days off work recently, so naturally I decided to spend the downtime making some serious progress on the painting desk. The focus this time was expanding my Epic Eldar fleet, knocking out over two dozen micro-scale armor pieces in one go.

All up, I managed to finish off over a dozen plastic Falcon Gravtanks, nine metal Wave Serpents, and seven Fire Prisms - comprising of four 1st-generation metal sculpts and three 2nd-generation ones.

Colour Schemes

I opted for different color schemes across each vehicle type. Eldar always look great on the table when coloured up, and practically speaking, it also makes differentiating the formations during a game much easier. The Falcons used light whites/greys with orange details, the Wave Serpents employed blues paired with white details and the Fire Prisms had both generations carry blue-tinted energy crystals, but the older metal sculpts are sporting green body, while the newer ones feature an orange/purple combo.

Technique-wise, I kept things simple and efficient. I relied upon my usual wash-heavy process followed by light drybrushing to bring out the raised panel edges at this scale, follow by some detail work e.g., the metallics.

Eldar wraithstones - I love 'em and hate them. Doing classic 28mm-style multi-layered blend gradients on 50+ tiny 1-2mm gems is a recipe for madness, so I stuck to the simple (1) basecoat in solid black, (2) add a white dot in the upper corner to establish the light source, then (3) paint a small slash of color along the opposite lower edge. At 6mm scale, the optical illusion works remarkably well on the table and more importantly, my sanity remains intact!

The Pile of Shame strikes back!

Wouldn't you know it, immediately after finishing off this batch, I managed to stumble upon another 5 plastic Falcons that I easily could have painted in the same go - oh well! I’ve also got another 3 metal Falcons sitting around that also need paint. I think I'll tuck those aside for a later addition - maybe if I need to run a specialized Formation or Troupe sometime.

On top of those, I’ve also got six metal Warp Hunters that I'd bought way back in the day. They’re primed and sitting ready for paint, but I’m going to leave them for the moment as I’m feeling a little painted out presently!

What next

Getting a new batch of models table ready is always a great feeling, and they should give my infantry formations some much-needed mobile fire support and transport options in our upcoming games.

Up next, I'll throw some energy at my Eldar infantry and two titans I've got primed and awaiting inspiration to strike.
