Cyberpunking

My recent cyberpunk gaming has been a lot of fun. Lately we've played Exploit Zero's Mission Critical several times at my local gaming club, Axes & Ales.

Mission Critical is proving to be a perfect club night game: it's played on a 2x2 board, so sets up quickly. Each player has 3 Agents - a Ronin (ranged weapon specialist), Razor (melee, close combat specialist), and a Specialist (a hacker and medic), which means there aren't dozens of models to track and manage. Because the game is played with objectives, there's more depth than simply a shoot-out, and both players are actively trying to achieve their own secret goals. All-in-all, the game seems to play in less than an hour, which means there's plenty of time for beers and stories whilst we play. I've managed to pack the whole game into one of my hard cases, which makes for easy transport too.

A highly recommended game. You're able to pick the pdf up for the price of a beer from Wargame Vault. Oh, just to be clear, Mission Critical is a stand-alone game and you don't need all the other Exploit Zero releases to play it.

Axes & Ales holds a regular swap meet each year. There's always a chance to bag a treasure or two. Our recent meet was no exception. One of my mates' side hobbies is 3d printing* and had apparently printed this particular batch a year or so ago. I think they're from Unit 9, who evidently make some great minis. I decided to put paint to plastic - actually resin - to several of them and have been very happy with the results.

*Let's be frank, sometimes the line between hobbies is blurred and I'm not one to judge 🤣

The guy on the right gave me a little bit of trouble but then, bang, he just worked.
I also liked the hi-top sneaker on the gal to his left- a nice touch.

I especially like how this guy game out - his head, face, etc just 'worked'.
We'll definitely see him on the tabletop soon.
I added a gloss on the jacket o this dude, which gave it a great leather-look.

These two girls also worked well. The Medic had lots of nice details - not too much and not too little. Her cyborg friend's lower torso was a treat too. Who doesn't love metal legs? Her head also was well done and just took the paint.
Mister Bare Chest is way cool - it's easy to imagine some huge backstory which has left him angry and ready to rain pain down on the city. I love the way his jumpsuit turned out and all the cybernetic implants just make for a great mini. His mate proved to be a little more difficult to paint - the head with beard didn't have the detail I needed to make it really work. That said, during a game he'll be absolutely fine.

The sword dude has a nice, dynamic stance but his head/face was all but inaccessible. That's okay, where his hands are doesn't really lend itself to visibility during a game. The way his jeans look is great and I applied a high gloss to his jacket - I was thinking rain slick from your standard cyberpunk settting. Mr Boss in a suit will certainly come in handy during some games, making for a MVP or the like.

They are really top quality sculpts and prints. My (patience) and painting skills barely do them justice. I am sure with a steadier hand, keener eyes, and some actual planning and skill, I could have done a much more impressive job. Not to worry, there are plenty more where those came from - seriously... maybe 20+ more models.
