I like how it is looking - a bit of colour can really bring a piece alive. You might notice the little mint green area on the raised platform? I am intending on turning that into a tiny small greenscreen computer monitor. I've also applied some green and purple around the Station's base. Maybe it's some kind of noxious pollutant, oozing out of the Station? No, the EPA definitely wouldn't approve.
That's some bronze in the centre of the shot - comes up a treat.
Green around the wheel hub and purple underneath the big pipe.
I'll likely dull it down some, but I do like how the cogs all came up. And those hoses are looking the money.
More green ooze around the other wheel and issuing from and around a pipe pushing through the lefthand side.
This gives a firm impression of the different colours involved.
You know what? I could seriously leave the build at that, BUT given that I still have some more time before the competition officially ends, I can't help but do some more. So I charged up my multitool and cut a little hole into the truck's tray...
I've included some static photos below, to help you appreciate the new element. I think it's vital from a gaming perspective. When running a game, you want to ensure that there aren't too many dead-ends. Having now 3 different directions from which the first raised platform can be reached makes for a lot more options when setting up the table, creating a scenario and running a game. I'm a little unsure as to how I'll actually dress this up, but I'll be sure to work something out - a ladder makes sense, however, maybe some sort of ramp affair might work as well? We'll just have to see where it goes, huh?
Other than that I was playing around with paddlepop sticks, trying to make a jig for stairs. One guy on Facebook did a great job of it, and I just have to make one myself. Ladders I have got down pat, but now I need staircases (PS I had my own method a year or two ago, but now I want something more authentic).
Looking great already, all the splashes of colour make it really stand out and look less dull.
ReplyDeleteIt's still surprisingly dark though, maybe because I expected some remains of the original yellow paint on the hull: withered away by the elements and corrosive atmosphere.
I also feel like the recently cut hole needs a little bit more defining. Maybe it's got there after a stray shot from a multi-melta, or even a bigger titan mounted weapon? Even when cut with a welder there are probably irregular edges on there.
I think you're right: some yellow could really make a difference, providing people with another visual cue, helping them make the connection with the underlying foundation. It's worth a try as what's the worst that can happen? I might have to re-paint the piece. No big deal.
DeleteYeah, the hole needs some more work. I was contemplating the same whilst I was drifting off to sleep last night. I think I may try building a frame around it - kind of reinforcing it some. One difficulty is the strength of the metal: that stuff is seriously strong! Anywho, there's plenty of opportunity to play around some more. PS I found an old plaster cast that I had made that fits into that cavity perfectly, so you may see a variation yet.
It's looking really good so far Jason. If I could offer some advice, maybe add a bit of contrast with the colour, to differentiate the truck from the ground.
ReplyDeleteI read that you're still not finished it, but even at this stage is still ace!
Well done 😊
Mate, you are the KING of contrast - what you manage to do with your minis is astounding. Yes, I need to get brave and push it further. Not a bit further, much further. I might have to get you around to provide a personal appraisal... and share a beer or two while we're at it ;-)
