My Sump Dock Competition Entry (Terrain)

With Christmas and all that entails looming, I had to get my Necromunda Terrain Builders Competition Entry completed this week - entries were due 20/12/19 and I had effectively run out of build time.  Not to worry, I was pleased with my end result and am looking forward to playing some games with it during the new year.

My final entry consisted of a 24-square inch 'Sump Canal' terrain board with about a dozen 'docks', half-a-dozen pieces of scatter terrain (that I call "Chaos Spikes" because they're spikey and cultists like 'em) and my little sump trawler, the Phoxinus.

The competition itself isn't particularly strict: you take the theme, build and paint whatever you like and enter a single photo (+ story if you like) for the community to vote upon.  Previous Quarter's competitions have seen big builds amongst the community's favourites and I had thought I'd be in the running for a crowd favourite this time around with my Sump Empress build.  Unfortunately, real-life got in the way and I ran out of time - it was my intention to have both the Phoxinus and Sump Empress ready to share the board. I'll have to return to that particular project during the new year.

So without further fuss, here's my 'official' entry photo:

And here's a complimentary photo that was taken at a different angle, providing a better appreciation as to one possible layout of the terrain.

What a fun build.  So what's next and left to do?  For starters, I'll have only limited time available to me for the next while, what with holidays, work pressures etc, so I don't expect to see anything material done until well into 2020.  Now that I have a better appreciation as to how to approach resin and water effects, I'd like to try my hand at an extension of the same... maybe an island board?  Also, I want to try sealing all my recent dock pieces - I can afford to get them a little wrong now, so I might buy some varnish (matt?  maybe a satin?) and try my luck.  I really liked the fences I made last weekend, I could see myself doing another batch of them as well.  And the Sump Empress - she shall set sail yet!
